Responsible Government

Four years ago Iowa was running a deficit budget and produced a projected $650m shortfall. Today through responsible governance and holding the line on spending, Iowa is in a position to lower income taxes in the near future. The future of true income tax relief will depend on whether politicians revert to the bad habits of the past or continue to hold the line on spending.

BusinessThe key to growing Iowa businesses is to provide an arena where restrictive burdens are removed. I co-sponsored SF 2116 and SR 7 to slow the rule making process which hampers growth. I simultaneously pushed to stall local property tax increases, until the legislature passed true property tax reform.

Respecting Integrity

I sponsored and wrote SF 87 which made it a criminal offense to falsely claim military honors to garnish political reward and social gain. To further financially support military families, I also sponsored SF 106 which exempts active military personnel from having to pay income tax while on duty.

EducationI believe we should create better educational opportunities for all Iowans. Iowa students should not only be competitive across the United States, but should be able to compete with students graduating from around the world.

Taxpayer Money

In an attempt to protect the taxpayer and create transparent government, I was the first to offer and sponsor SF 139. This established an online searchable database to allow taxpayers to see where their money is being spent.

Second Amendment

I have worked diligently to protect the Second Amendment rights of responsible Iowans. In SF 162, SF 263, SF 264, and SF 372 I stood up for the rights of Iowans to protect themselves and their loved ones.
